Boston Trip-- Montauk, NY The Hamptons w/o Crowds

Part of Laurence's Family History is in Montauk, NY. He is descended from the Montaukett Indians. While we were there he spent some time at the public library and city hall looking for information on his family.
Montauk is at the very end of Long Island. I had no idea that the gorgeous part of Long Island even existed!!! I always thought that Long Island and Skyscrapers were synonymous. We drove from NYC to Montauk. It was so beautiful!! Several times during the drive when we approached the eastern end of the island you could see the ocean on both sides. It was so cool! We stayed at the Harborside Hotel. Certainly not the Taj Mahal, but more in our budget than the other hotels. Remember, this is a tourist area not far from The Hamptons....
We went for dinner to the Inlet Seafood Restaurant. The food was okay, but the view was spectacular!!
Can you believe such an incredible sunset???
This was taken from the far eastern end of the island. The little "pond" in the foreground is an oyster pond.
The Montauk Point Lighthouse was the first lighthouse in New York state and is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States.
Montauk is a major tourist destination and it boasts six state parks. It is particularly famous for its fishing (claiming to have more world saltwater fishing records than any other port in the world) and surfing.
View from the top of the lighthouse. It's gorgeous! Can you believe the colors in the ocean? It reminds me of Ireland with all the incredible colors!
